A marketing funnel and an operational journey answer different questions. They begin with awareness, move through consideration, and finish at conversion. That is useful for buying media. It is less useful for running a clinic.
An operational funnel starts with events you can verify: enquiry received, consultation booked, consultation attended, diagnostic step completed, treatment started, and follow-up due.
Measure transitions, not just stages
The important number is how many patients should have moved and did not. A patient with no reply is different from one who replied and declined. One is a process failure. The other is information.
For every transition, write down the trigger, expected time window, owner, and evidence of completion. If the team cannot agree, the process is not ready for automation. The disagreement is the work.
Use real records
Sample enough journeys to include busy days, staff absence, duplicate records, no-show reschedules, results held for review, and patients who change channel halfway through.
Choose one gap
A useful first candidate has a clear event, a clear next action, frequent repetition, and a safe exception route. Solve one transition and prove it before moving to the next.
